The pigeons are faster than ADSL

This anecdote begins Friday in South Africa where an IT company has undertaken to demonstrate that it was more interesting for them a carrier pigeon carrying data rather than sending them via the Internet.

Les pigeons voyageurs sont plus rapides que lADSL

It took 1 hour and 8 minutes to Winston, a pigeon from 11 months to travel the 80 kilometers between Pietermaritzburg to Durban, South Africa. Including the load on the computer data transported, the transfer lasted 2 hours, 6 minutes and 57 seconds.

At the same time, only one quarter of data was transmitted via the Internet.

The company wanted IT Unlimited by this demonstration pointing the incumbent Telko whose prices are too expensive and too slow connection. Telko has not commented on this challenge yet ...

The World Cup "South Africa 2010" could benefit South Africa and advancing the construction of a fiber optic submarine of 17,000 km connecting South Africa with the East and the world .

That said, at Boing Boing, they are more like to make people want to drop our preconceived notions. A pigeon is really good means of communication the world's fastest (translation Seb, thank you to him).

If the full load of pigeon (25 grams) is used to transport SD 64GB (2.05 grams each), Vailllant our cards can carry 12 or 768 GB of data. A quantity that a broadband network such as fiber (100 Mbps) n'achemine that just over 17 hours.

I do not know if the loading time of maps has been considered but briefly, it is sobering! :)

After that, it sure is fast but it is better to be prepared to lose a certain amount of packages on the way ... but it is provided and specified in the standard IPoAC (IP over avian carrier) which was originally a fish April but which, as you read, practical applications in real life!;)
