Ubuntu 9.10 is here Karmic Koala

Today that leaves the new final version of Ubuntu, version 9.10, called Karmic Koala. Each new release of Ubuntu is every time eagerly awaited by his passionate community of Linux users, which is far from the cliché of the very insider club geeks. Indeed, Ubuntu is primarily a Linux distribution oriented public and with this version, it is one step closer to more convivialité.

This version will still be easier to use: everything is done with the mouse, the installation program, configuration, use daily ... In theory, more a command line is needed to install drivers or solve technical problems.

Users of Windows or Mac OS will not be disoriented by the Ubuntu GNOME desktop, but they should greatly appreciate the opportunity to walk around on multiple virtual desktops. In addition, management of windows can be much nicer than Windows and Mac OS if you enable the 3D effects as illustrated by the video below!

Otherwise, the main novelty of this version of Ubuntu, Ubuntu is One, a service for synchronizing files online. 2 GB of space are available (or $ 10 monthly for 50GB) to have files accessible from anywhere at any time. This service does not (natively) on Windows 7 unless you use a software error of DropBox (which is a great piece of software by the way) and Mac OS, MobileMe costs 79 euros per year for 20 GB of space.

From a software perspective, Ubuntu comes with a suite of products that meet virtually every need. Open Office for office, Mozilla Firefox for web, to name a few. If necessary, the new package manager (to add / remove programs) should be suitable for beginners to more of you.

Installing Ubuntu is simple and straightforward: you download the system image, it burns the CD, it reboots the machine and we proposed to install Ubuntu on the disk ... or start from the CD for more cautious (I'm already used to troubleshoot a hard drive NTFS which I had permission ...). Some versions of Ubuntu should offer to update automatically to those who have already installed.

Finally, for those who still need their Microsoft OS, installing Ubuntu alongside Windows works perfectly so no worry, you can live Ubuntu and Windows 7 without problem. This is what I intend to do tonight;)
