The TI-84 Silver Edition Plus is one of the most popular and reliable models from TI, and is dominating the industry. The reason for this is due in part to the reputation that all TI models have had in the past, and that this model simply built further up from the strong foundation of its predecessors, the TI-83 models.
Notable Upgrades
- 2.5 times faster than the previous TI-83
- 1.54 MB of RAM with plenty of storage
- Comes with a pre-loaded suite of 30 applications
- Enhanced contrast graphical display at 8 lines by 16 characters
The TI-84 Silver Edition Plus also offers the ever so popular USB port to ensure quick and easy data transfers between other TI as well as personal computers.
Some Of My Favorite Aspects
- One of the most important things I have found with the With the TI-84 Plus Silver Edition that is different from the TI-84 Plus model is that you can view an equation, its graph, and the coordinates all at one time on the same screen!
- I also am very pleased that there are several useful plot types that are available, including XY-line, histogram, scatter, box-and-whisker, histogram, and normal probability plots.
- With its clear display and unmatched processing speed, this calculator incorporates graphing tools for mathematics and science course work, and even statistics for financial work. (use this tool regularly when my wife and are figuring out our monthly budget)
- I am also a sucker for accessories, the TI-84 Plus SE has a full line of face plates that allow you to uniquely customize your calculator. (most people do not care about this aspect, but hey, kind of a perk worth mentioning at least!) Last but not least, the optional kickstand slide case is handy for general desktop work.

Overview
Like most TI calculators, the TI 84 Silver Edition Plus is typically stereotyped as a purely educational tool; and what a tool it is for any student embarking in a major with a lot of math and science! However, this calculator is just as useful in the professional world! I have owned this model for over two years now, and use it on a daily basis to help me program radii specs and angles into CNC programs. It is amazing how much less stress I go through without having to run all the figures on paper, and check my work multiple times to ensure I did not screw up a decimal or fraction!
So whether you are simply upgrading from an old model, or purchasing a graphing calculator for the first time as a requirement for a class, realize that this calculator has the potential to help you in many other ways, long after your math and science classes have ended!
